Kerala: 11 year old Vishnu Saravanan of CESE Pune finished on top in the Optimist National Championship 2011 at Cherai, Kerala. He claimed the gold after beating Sail the Gulf champion Upamanyu Dutta (RBYC) and Inland National Champion Chintan Chhatbar (MYC).

Vishnu came into the final day with a two points lead over Upamanyu and the championships last two races set the stage for a fine thriller. But unfortunately, the winds failed to rise on the occasion and with the last two races being called off, Vishnu went home a happy winner.

Along with the overall title, he won the Chougule trophy for finishing first in under-12 category and also received the Best Boy Sailor award.

“I entered the event with the goal to finish in the top two but after winning the third race I gained all the confidence to win here and then I took two more bullets back to back”, Said Vishnu.

Upamanyu finished runners up while Chintan Chhatbar and Chennai’s Vishnu Sujeesh finished third and fourth respectively.

In the team Nationals, RBYC Marauders beat TNSA Tigers to win the Optimist team Nationals title. The team of RBYC Marauders comprised on Upamanyu Dutta, Vir Menon, Aryaman Dutta and Diya Correa.
