Hyderabad: Defending champion Upamanyu Dutta of Royal Bombay Yacht Club clinched his third successive Optimist Monsoon Regatta title at Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad on Saturday. With only two guns in the ten race series and a very consistence performance he topped the fleet with only 19 points. Being the tallest and heaviest of the competitors, Dutta was able to make the best use of the strong wind conditions in three races.
Vir Menon and Chintan Chattbar finished second and third respectively. They were tied for the second spot with 22 points but the former secured the silver owing to his four guns against the latter’s two.
Amongst the girls Leah Govias and Janaki Balachander of TNSA finished first and second respectively. Overall they finished 6th and 7th respectively. The girls did give a tough time to the boys and often lead the fleet but three races in heavy conditions proved a bit much to match the experience and talent of the boys. Rukayya Nasrullah won the bronze giving TNSA a clean sweep of the girls medal tally.
In the ‘B’ fleet,Sivaram N of Govt High School Monda Market claimed the Gold with four guns while Rohan Siva of RMYC won the Silver.
