Upamanyu Dutta (RBYC) at the IODA Asian Championship 2011, Singapore

Singapore: Upamanyu Dutta proved his talent ones again with a superb performance at the Asian Sailing Championship 2011 in Singapore. He finished 31st overall in a strong fleet of 118 boats that featured all of the worlds top sailors from Asia. He finished majority of his races in the top 20 which includes a 2nd and 6th place finish. In spite of being among the heavier sailors in the fleet, he sailed well in all wind conditions and proved his sailing skills against the best Optimist sailors in the world.

Early this year, Upamanyu battled strong winds in the Persian gulf to win Gold at the Qatar International regatta and now with his outstanding performance in this series that saw all type of wind conditions, he has proved his class as an all round sailor.

Upamanyu has always performed extremely well in strong wind conditions. Had the winds been heavy throughout the event, a podium finish wouldn’t have been far from him. He is aiming now to win a medal at the world championships to be held in Napier in New Zealand in December and his performance in the challenging conditions in Singapore would definitely stand him in good stead.
