Ashok Thakkar, Commodore of TNSA gave a brief overview of the event and said the participation, both foreign and Indian, has steadily increased since the Regatta was held for the first time in 2009. He said, “Tamil Nadu has risen to the top in the country whether it is participation in national and international events, in intensive training or the number of medal winners. With the Chief Minister’s decision of developing a Marina, a sailing academy will also be developed along with it.”
Mr.Prabhakaran, speaking on behalf of the Volvo group which continues to the title sponsor said, “Volvo supports youth championships internationally on a regular basis. We are proud to be associated with the India International Regatta and we will continue to support this event.”
Mr,Ramesh Kymal, CEO of Gamesa, one of the Gold sponsors said, “We started as a silver sponsor last year, a gold sponsor this year and hope to be the title sponsor next year. We are in the business of promoting pollution free electricity and we are keen to encourage such nonpolluting sports like sailing.”
Mr.Mrinmoy Mukherjee, Director, Marketing and Business Development of Raymond Limited, a first time Gold sponsor this year said, “We are committed not just this year but in time to come we will continue to support this sport.” He carried a special message from the yachting enthusiast CEO of Raymond, Mr.Gautam Singhania, wishing a successful and fun-filled event.
For the first time this year, the event’s action will be captured by on-board and aerial cameras by a professional agency, Icarus Sailing Media, which will produce a film that will be distributed internationally.
