Malaysia: Vishnu Sarvanan won a bronze medal for India at the 9th KFC Langkawi International Regatta Perdana 2012 in Optimist class. A total of nine optimist sailors and one Laser 4.7 sailor from India took part in the event.
The event featured a strong fleet of 92 boats and served as a warm up event for the Asian Sailing Championship which starts on Thursday.
In the second last race of the series, Vishnu faced some problem with the main block which cost him 7 points. He would have won gold had he not faced this gear failure. The Indian Team gave the biggest cheer of the night to Vishnu as he took the podium.
Vishnu Sujeesh finished 13th overall and remained the second best Indian at the event. He would have finished better overall had he not lost a second place to an OCS.
Janaki Balachander finished 4th among the girls and 18th overall.
Mahesh Balachander finished 4th in division B (under 12 years) and was placed 29th overall.
8 years old Navyn Prabhakar, our youngest sailor, won a Bronze medal in division C (under 10 years) and finished 75th overall.
